following the exclusive heavy mix compilation that jimi jules knocked out for us recently, its time to deliver on those exclusives via two eps from the man himself and we kick things off with ep number one, midnight juggernaut where jules studio prowess is on full display with three stellar originals including a remix from the mighty recondite

finally realized, here s one that was long on the dkr wish list. among the very finest moments from both artists, these brilliant interpolations of curtis classics have been unavailable too long. a mesmerizing rhythm adorned with the lovely sounds of hand drums, melodica and flute, mixed and dubbed to perfection by king tubby himself. this 12inch is a 6 track ep, with all four cuts as originally released on two separate 45s, plus two unreleased mixes straight off the original tapes. we like to think tubbs favored these cuts, as so many mixes were done! the dub titled super cool is, in our humble opinion, one of tubby s top 10 extant mixes. full disclosure, all tracks except super cool pt. 2 come from the original jamaican mastertapes. we suspect the pt. 2 mix was lost somewhere in nyc, but don t let that trouble you, this one should please all who have ears.

7 inch single such as the record itself (alcazar), the second single chaos takes its influence from the golden age boom-bap era of hip-hop, that is smooth as velvet and helps transmit its message of social critique, love and hope. woxows message has been perfectly delivered by 2 great rappers, akil the mc from jurassic 5 (who doesnt need introduction) and blurum13 (well known for his works with dj vadim), while on the other side the chorus sang by the legendary ken boothe from jamaica it sounds like the icing on the cake, topping the tune with his soulful voice and a work songs feeling.

junes kicks off a new imprint, dote, with a full-length exploration of the direct yet dreamlike sound he s made his own. with his usual flair for crisp grooves and ghostly palettes, a view reveals a broader range of nuanced vibes. second wind and stop, elate show a playful buoyancy, and a sense of discovery in tracks like balancing act and two-sided embrace add a narrative pace to the collection. there s time for some of the creeping, spaced out atmospheres that hallmark some of junes previous best, but with tracks like packaging, the realisation of this sound is richer than ever. there s a restless feel throughout the work, too – especially evident in the closer spooked – and a feeling that we ve been on a trip that doesn t end here.

julian sanza and andre espeut, are two very familiar names in the scene. julian, who hails from argentinian/cuban roots and andre with his french/caribbean heritage, come together to merge electronic dance, modern funk, soul and boogie, creating their own unique melting pot of goodness! there s something distinctly anthemic about perfect system . low slung, synthed up funk, with a house tinge driven by those sweet soulful vocal harmonies - sure to get stuck in your head for days. opolopo opens up the e.p. adding his trademark disco remix magic touch to the original - upping the tempo, laying a shuffling beat behind, pumping up the bassline and getting spiritual on the keys. on the flip the situation remix channels the inner improv funk, keeping the vocals to choice snippets before the sare havlicek dub rounds the e.p. off reworking the bass synth to the point where it exudes the sleaze. this is the first in a series of collaborations between these two… keep those eyes peeled!

amsterdam-based artist and format-label honcho juan sanchez himself delivers a quartet of tracks carrying his signature sound for the label’s thirteenth release. never one to settle for the ordinary, juan sanchez’ latest outing follows a more conceptual approach to techno. each track adds its own flavor to the mix, with the ep as a whole being a combination of dubby and dancefloor-fused material. synth and bass arps, stripped grooves and driving drums are the main ingredients of juan’s sound, all of which come together across this ep’s four-track canvas. the result is a balanced mix of both dubby and dancefloor-tinged techno laced with experimental twists and turns. with his new release, juan adds another quality slice of techno to the format roster.

milan based collective just this are proud to present the ‘absolute infinity ep’, a joint release from netherlands-based producers sinfol and octual. featured in this package are two remixes from gerd janson prescribing a heavy dose of acid. title track is a stripped back groove with a looping synth lead that wanders through ricocheting drums. for his first remix gerd muffles the framework of the original, making room for a floating melody and warm lead, whilst the ‘acid only’ version takes the components of the original and throws them into a bath full of acid. closing off the ep is ‘wire’, a moody dancefloor cut for the after-hours.

the next instalment in the my rules catalog sees label owner justin van der volgen take on japanese house legend yukihiro fukutomi aka foog s techy club jam flying . originally available as a digital-only release, it s twisted into two exclusive new versions. on the a-side edit, justin travels down the less walked path of splicing and shortens the track, which along with his subtle drum additions tastefully amplify and sharpen the feeling of tension and release. the b-side dub is a heavy bass and drum mix complete with flanged hissing hi-hats, alien claps and cavernous echoes.
